will.i.am created the i.am scholarship to provide future leaders and innovators with financial assistance for the entirety of their post-secondary education, as well as professional opportunities at Dipdive.com upon the completion of their course of study. More than just financial aid, the i.am scholarship is an investment in our future. We know our children need an education -- and not just a high school education. In order to make significant contributions to our society, most of our children will first need to complete college. However, many students don’t have the resources to get a college education. In 2009, will.i.am launched the i.am scholarship on the Oprah Show and provided a 4-year scholarship to four students who were in dire need of financial assistance to attend college.
Since forming in 1995, six-time Grammy award-winning, multi-platinum recording artists The Black Eyes Peas have sold more than 28 million albums worldwide and more than 30.8 million digital tracks. On November 30, 2010, The Black Eyed Peas released The Beginning , the follow-up to the group’s blockbuster CD The E.N.D. The first single from The Beginning, “The Time (Dirty Bit),” has sold over 2million digitally and peaked at #1 on digital singles chart and #4 on the hot 100 chart.
The END has sold more than 11 million copies world-wide and spent 52 weeks on the Billboard Top 200 chart. It is also the first album in two decades by a duo or group to yield five Top 10 songs on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, including the No. 1 hits “Boom Boom Pow,” “I Gotta Feeling” (which is the best-selling digital song in SoundScan history), and “Imma Be,” as well as the Top 10’s “Meet Me Halfway” and “Rock That Body.” The quartet, comprised of WILL.I.AM, FERGIE, APL.DE.AP and TABOO, has logged more than 300 headline tour dates in 29 countries with more than 2.2 million tickets sold.
